An abnormality struck my sister, Joy. Cancer is abnormal cell growth. The key to recovery is early detection, treatment and mental strength.
In this art piece, the green crystals are symbols of the cancer cells. The bright clothing reflects Joy's sparkle that never dimmed. The hands recognize the folks of Butler, Alabama for their dedication and support in getting her to treatments. Her husband, Dean, and her doctors had her back. Those who knew her never let her down.

The dragonfly symbolizes Hope, Change, and Love. This was my inspiration.
I created this piece to depict Hope - the journey - Change that occurs to the Breast Cancer Survivor and the Love that surrounds them during the journey.
Artist: Elizabeth "Libby" Treat
This piece was created for the Bra-Vo exhibit. I was inspired by the egret pictures in Artisans by Susan Kirby and Sabrina Gowen.
I thought how cool to combine the image with handmade leather feathers. Adding the turquoise rivets to the artwork was through the inspiration of another Artisan associate, Jerry Morey's silver and turquoise handmade jewelry.

The Phoenix is a symbol of rebirth, something most people dealing with cancer go through. Lumpectomy, mastectomy, radiation, chemo, implants, and aesthetic flat closure, all words that cancer survivors have heard and/or deal with on their journey.
As a breast cancer survivor, the strength and hope of the Phoenix brought me positive feelings when times felt uncertain and scary, bringing my own rebirth. I was blessed with early detection, great doctors, and a fantastic support system. Early screening and progress in breakthrough technology are keys to curing this disease.
I can only hope by participating in the Bra-Vo fundraiser, that someone receives the testing they need to save their life.

On August 2nd, I had a radical mastectomy of the right breast. During this time, life seemed subaqueous, lacking in strength, immersed.
Painting under the sea themes on my many art projects of painting on things lent itself to the Bra- Vo mannequin taking on the nautical realm.

Women are constantly fighting a battle of beauty. We are so caught up in what mainstream media deems is beautiful. We
forget what true beauty is. It's not perfection. It is our flaws, our scars. All of these tell a story about our life.
We need to embrace the difficulties and challenges we face. There is where our true beauty lies. From battle with breast cancer to pregnancy, and aging our beauty exists within our hearts and soul. Look in the mirror. You are beautiful ...... Just the Way You Are.
Artist : Regina "Reggie" Doherty
I had ILC breast cancer in 2011 and have been "clear" for eleven years!
I owe it to medicine, yes, but also to being surrounded by love and nature. I feel nature heals in many ways - especially the soul. I love mixing nature into my forms to reinforce the beauty of healing.

I wanted to celebrate each breath that we are given. Regardless of circumstances, we have a choice to fight or succumb.
I say fight. Fight with every breath. Fight loud. Fight brightly and rise. Rise like flowers from the rain. Stay loud. I created this in support for all who have fought.

No matter what life throws at you, no matter how many times you get knocked down, get back up brush yourself off and be strong, have courage and be kind.
Think of the caterpillar who blossoms into a magnificent butterfly.

I've always loved the colorful plumage of peacocks. I used tapestry techniques to weave this piece and then added beads plus feathers to further enhance it.

My passion is re-purposed and salvaged items as an artist and human. Each worn piece of jewelry has a memory or moment in time. Broken pieces of lives lived happy or sad. The object of the art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.
I made this for Bra-Vo to support anyone with breast cancer. As "Sting" sings, "How Fragile We Are", broken is a state of mind - be strong.
Artist : June Knowles
This piece speaks to the expectation that women are soft and fragile. Most of us have faced adversity in our lives that we were not sure we could handle. During these times we often discover that we are stronger than we thought we could ever be, that we are as strong as we need to be.
While we see the women in our lives as beautiful, fragile, and soft as silk – they can also be tough as nails!
